HERBAL MEDICINE is a holistic approach to health, where  you are treated with the help of plant remedies (infusions, tinctures, creams, etc) alongside nutritional and lifestyle advice in order to restore balance and harmony to  your body and mind. The root cause of the condition is sought and dealt with, rather than the symptom(s) alone, thus enabling you to mobilize your own healing powers.

A qualified medical herbalist has studied for 3 or 4 years a BSc(Hons) level in one of the Universities recognized by the National Institute of Medical Herbalists (NIMH). Plant-based topics are taught (botany, therapeutics, etc.) alongside medical ones (like anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, etc.). Meanwhile, the herbalist-to-be is required to attend 500 hours of clinical practice, where s/he is given a hands-on experience in treating clients and preparing remedies.

This is why if you really want to be treated holistically  while getting to the root cause of your issue, then I highly recommend you consult a fully qualified medical herbalist (There are a lot of us herbalists around!), rather than relying simply on over-the-counter 'good-for-all' remedies! We are all individual beings, after all!

If you suffer from

digestive, respiratory or circulatory problems,

skin complaints,

emotional issues,

hormonal imbalances or

musculo-skeletal aches and pains,

and want to get to the bottom of it, then why not give Herbal medicine a try? It can be safely used alongside other treatments, including conventional ones, when appropriately prescribed by a herbalist. And it is good for children as well as grown-up!

PERSONAL ANECDOTE: What brought me to herbal medicine?

After moving to the UK and becoming vegan, I was looking for a therapist to help me with my change in diet. I couldn't find any nutritionist, but I found a herbalist instead! After a couple of visits, I said to my self: 'Why don't I study herbal medicine my-self, so I can help my-self and others , too!?' So I asked my herbalist what to do, enrolled my-self in a foundation course in science,  a pre-requisite for the BSc, something that turned out to be extremely useful for me, since I lacked of a  science background  (In Italy I focused my studies on foreign languages as interpretor/translator)! And then I just had to choose which university I wanted to study! I must confess, I chose Westminter in London because it was only a three-year course, rather then four...if I could go back and change, I would have gone for the four-year: there is just so much to learn!!! But I have enjoyed it anyway! So, here I am , fully qualified, insured...and with one dream manifested!
